Boiling

Processing starts with boiling of selected cork planks.

This process gives cork the necessary flexibility. At the same time, it allows planks to lose a large part of tannic material, as well as impurities naturally present.  

Boiling is made in clean water in a stainless steel tank and it took a time between 60 and 90 minutes. Water is used just once for this purpose.

Water used for boiling are not submitted to any disinfection treatment. Its purity is monitored by chemical and microbiological analysis.
